SEISMIC CALCULATIONS ARE DONE FOR EVERY VERTICAL HANSON WATER STORAGE TANK
A PRINTOUT CAN BE FURNISHED
IF REQUESTED AT TIME OF ORDER
(Note: These calculations are not signed by a P.E. This can be done at extra cost if required).
Seismic Zone classifications are: 4, 3, 2a, 2b and 1. (Zone 4 has the highest
risk).
Earthquake Faults are: Types A, B and C. (Type A has the highest risk).
When in Seismic Zone 4, near a type A fault, we need to know the Jobsite
address or the distance of the jobsite from the fault, if less than 10km.
When in Seismic Zone 4, near a type B fault, we need to know the Jobsite address
or the distance of the jobsite from the fault, if less than 2km.
The proximity of a Type C fault has no effect on the calculation.
When in Seismic Zones 3, 2B, 2A and 1 the proximity of a fault has no effect
on the calculation.
For Zone 4 calculations, the Jobsite address or the distance of the jobsite
from the closest Type A or B fault is required. If neither is furnished, we
assume that the vessel’s installed location is over the minimum distance
under which reinforced supports could be necessary and accept no responsibility
if this is not the case.
Hanson Seismic calculations confirm that our support design meets or exceeds
requirements for the operating weight of the subject vessel when installed
without extra bracing on grade in the specified Seismic Zone with an importance
factor of 1. Importance Factors exceeding 1.0 can be included in the calculation
if required.
Seismic calculations for vessels that are to be installed above grade are
not furnished by Hanson. A qualified Structural Engineer will be required.
Design Codes that require USGS Databases to specific Zip Codes are not done except on custom designs. No design for foundations or slabs is included without P.E. Stamp. Existing slabs may not be acceptable to prevent pull out of bolts or overturning of tank.
